To type a special pinyin letter, simply type the vowel followed by the number of the tone.
For example, typing 'a1' will convert to 'ā' when typed.

If invited to lunch or dinner in China as a guest, it is not expected for you to pay or split the bill. It is good manners to offer to pay several times, but ultimately to allow the host to pay. In casual situations, it may be common to split the bill.
