To type a special pinyin letter, simply type the vowel followed by the number of the tone.
For example, typing 'a1' will convert to 'ā' when typed.
When you meet a friend of Dani's on the street, you get a chance to introduce yourself in Mandarin Chinese. You'll learn to talk about nationalities and what country you're from. Telling people what languages you speak and your level of knowledge are also discussed.
If you spend some time in China, you'll soon learn that personal connections are what makes things happen in China. Known as guanxi, it is the ability to call on favors and influence in both personal and business dealings. It is generally wise to return any favors given, and also to do people favors if you have the opportunity. You may develop a useful contact to call on in the future to return a favour!
