It's very beneficial to know the Chinese words for various types of alcoholic drinks if socialising in China. Chinese people generally don't go to bars very often, preferring instead to have a drink with a meal. The younger generation may go to bars more often, especially colleagues meeting after work. Either way, its good to go armed with a knowledge of some crucial vocabulary!
Chinese baijiu, often referred to as rice wine, is stronger than vodka, and foreigners typically criticize its unpleasant taste. It is traditionally sold in ceramic bottles and served warm in small glasses or cups. It is common for plenty of shots of baijiu to be drank at any Chinese get-together, especially weddings and family gatherings. Toasts are commonplace throughout an evening, and it's wise to remember to toast the host!
